From bug talk to brine, this event has something for everyone

The following is a news release (only very lightly edited) that Vegging Out thought readers might enjoy - we can't guarantee it's a vegetarian only event, but it does appear worthwhile.

Organic Growers have invited the publc to celebrate the harvest this year at the 7th annual Taste! Organic Connecticut, to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 at Topmost Herb Farm, 244 North School Road, Coventry. The event, sponsored by CT NOFA, or the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Connecticut, and the Connecticut Farmland Trust, is a Harvest Festival with something for everyone. Taste! features the state’s largest organic farmers’ market, eight free educational workshops, kids’ entertainment, sustainable craft vendors, live music, and fresh organic food. Workshops include Community Supported Agriculture: What Is It? Why Is It?, Maple Sugaring in Connecticut, Weeds and Bugs – How Does An Organic Farmer Cope?, Making Your Own Herbal Soap, What’s That Tree?, Our Friendly Earthworms, The Basic Brine, Home Cheesemaking and the popular Weed Walks.

The menu features organic vegetables prepared in delicious ways by the Willimantic Food Coop. Sweet Sage Bakery will offer Kathy Duffy’s Delicious Desserts. Mark Shadle, of It’s Only Natural Restaurant in Middletown, will do vegetarian cooking demonstrations throughout the day.

Admission is $5 per person for everyone between 12 and 80 years old, and includes parking, workshops and music. For more information, visit http://www.ctnofa.org/ or call (203) 888-5146. No pets, please. CT NOFA, a nonprofit membership organization of farmers, gardeners, land care professionals, businesses and consumers, has been Cultivating an Organic Connecticut for more than 25 years.
